We live today in a vast and sprawling world, where the disparity in everything is the characteristic that unites humanity. This difference is reflected largely in aspects of our lives. Therefore, the modern man has realized himself in many details around him, starting by the things that he owns and uses throughout his day, and ending with the urban buildings in which he lives, which satisfy his physical and aesthetic needs.

Modernism concept and architecture technology have created disparate styles in contemporary building techniques. We are living life in its entirety, being affected by and influencing the things around us. This is what has been confirmed by the global pandemic of Corona (Covid-19), which has cast a psychological, health, and economic shadow over the world as a whole, and created new lifestyles and behaviors in humans. It even made us review our relationship to things around us and the relationship of societies to each other. Spending weeks in closed rooms has made us rethink a fundamental question: Are our homes suitable for healthy and safe living?

The pandemic and Reshaping Architecture

The sudden advent of the Corona pandemic, and the imposition of a forced lockdown between the walls of homes, revealed the deep defect in architectural designs. Therefore, most of our city designs are unable to accommodate such crises, and this calls for a serious and real review of architectural styles, and a reconsideration of the current design philosophy. Today, we are in dire need to build modern, livable, cities that are able to face pandemics and crises, and to reshape our current cities into designs that are compatible with nature. We will create and renew the relationship between man and nature, and rebuild an interactive relationship that mimics these modern trends, with the aim of creating a healthy environment that accommodates challenges and reduces negative impacts.

Effective interest must be given to sustainable buildings and designs, to remain our homes safe and livable. In order to improve the quality of life, we are taking advantage of our renewable natural resources, to ensure a better future for upcoming generations, because these designs that we are working on now are simply our future tomorrow.

Laila McKay, director of the Center for Urban Design and Psychological Health, says: “Cities will only become sustainable and resilient in the face of pandemics if they are designed from a health perspective.” Nothing is healthier for humans than the connection between architectural designs and mother nature.

Architecture and Psychological Health

As mentioned above, the negative effects of wrong designs deepened in the recent Corona pandemic. Whereas, the design of buildings with a beautiful appearance from the outside, without any attention for their connection with nature, or taking into account the aspects of interior design, affects greatly the behavior of their residents. The repercussions of these wrong designs are severe and harsh on human health and have devastating long-term effects. The World Health Organization has listed "Buildings Disease Syndrome" as one of the diseases that afflict people and can affect their mental health. In addition, there are multiple studies confirming the effect of interior colors on brains, as the interior designs of homes including the chosen colors, the furniture used, and the way they are arranged, greatly affect our senses and psychological health.

Being in unsanitary buildings contributes to many symptoms such as headache, nausea, dry inflammation, and a number of others. The effect of correct designs and good ventilation inside buildings also has a great impact on protecting humans from infection with the virus. This is confirmed by health studies during the year.

Intuitive design and global Bauhaus style

As it is known that urban designs are the result of societal deposits that embody the religious, ethnic, and historical beliefs of the area in which they are built. But the emergence of the German School "Bauhaus" a hundred years ago has completely changed the concept of architecture by foresighting the future and building sustainable designs in a global and artistic language. The famous Bauhaus school takes into account three basic aspects in its designs, which are: the efficiency of using environmentally friendly materials, the environmental form to achieve harmony between its designs and nature, and the great interest in the artistic dimensions, and making these designs a masterpiece in their own right.

We take into account in our modern designs simplicity and shorthand in shape and mass, the use of advanced methods to create designs that fit the zeitgeist, and focus on using the elements of nature and making these buildings more sustainable for us and for future generations.
