Project info:

The project features a mosque design at the gateway to the Holy City of Medina. Our architectural design was inspired by the city’s rich sociopolitical history and religious significance for the Islamic community. Geographically, the raw character of the city, with its arid regions and dry mountains, influenced our earthy design approach. We believe that religious structures and places of worship should foster a collective spirit among visitors. Our design aims to reinterpret the symbolism of religious spaces by using a cohesive pattern in materials and focusing on landscaping to include community-oriented spaces and prayer junctions.

Modern concepts have been integrated into the traditional Islamic style of the mosque. This integration is achieved through the use of regional tree typology, an oasis for the ablution area, and local stones, drawing from the immediate context to enrich the organic nature of the built environment. The windows and entrances are creatively designed to ensure sunlight entry and constant air purification. Strategically placed windows provide a serene atmosphere for worshipers, who experience various emotions and seek peace during prayer.

The design of the Medina Mosque by RR Architects represents an effort to reinterpret religious structures and places of worship by symbolizing the traits of the immediate context and blending regional architecture with contemporary planning.
